INDEPENDANCE ET DIVERSITÉ

UWC Costa Rica est une école UWC assez particulière. Tout d’abord de par son passé, se fut une école qui avait pour but d’offrir une éducation pour les enfants de l’organisation SOS children villages international au Costa Rica avant de devenir UWC. Ensuite, il y’a cette relation spéciale qu’elle entretient avec la communauté de Santa Ana. L’école est très impliquée dans les activités de la communauté et n’hésite pas à impliquer aussi ses élèves. 

Chaque 15 septembre, la communauté de  Santa Ana organise une parade pour fêter l’indépendance du Costa Rica. Ainsi les élèves d’UWC, vêtus de leurs plus beaux costumes traditionnels, sont conviés chaque année à participer à cet évènement crucial de la vie de la communauté. Le but est de montrer la diversité qu’abritent cette belle communauté et de montrer notre engagement face à ses activités culturelles. Cette année j’ai eu la chance de participer à cet évènement. Que puis-je dire… 


Quelle explosion de couleurs et de diversité !!

C’est lors de ces moments spéciaux, que vous pouvez apercevoir la diversité de l’école. Vous allez surtout apprendre sur des pays et régions qui vous étaient jusqu’à lors méconnues!

Particulièrement je pense à l’Asie qui comporte un mélange de cultures et différences inimaginables. Je fais une référence à tout ceux qui pense que tous les asiatiques sont des chinois ! En effet les stéréotypes et biais s’effacent, et laisse place à une histoire que vous n’auriez jamais pu connaitre, même dans une classe d’histoire géographie. Népal, Indonésie, Bhutan, Vietnam, Chine, Japon… et tant d’autres encore que je ne peux tous les citer ! Le but de tout ça c’est découvrir l’autre, apprécier ses potentialités et créer  des connections à travers le monde!

De plus, c’est le moment parfait pour les différentes régions du monde, de se rassembler et de montrer leur union. Particulièrement, pour la communauté africaine qui représente juste une minorité à UWC. Africain du nord, de l’Est et de l’ouest, nous ne formons qu’une seule et même famille à ce moment précis. On peut voir à quel point nous sommes soudés et même, on peut apercevoir les quelques similarités que nous partageons. Souvent, on n’hésite pas à s’échanger les drapeaux juste pour le fun et se mettre un peu dans la peau d'une autre nationalité.

Le plus important, c’est que la population de Santa Ana est très chaleureuse et agréable. Les habitants montrent leur engouement et leurs joies face à toutes ces cultures. Ils peuvent même souvent vous interpeler pour une petite photo par ci, par là… mais rien de mal. La communauté est très curieuse d’apercevoir ces mélanges de cultures et n’hésite pas à poser des questions pour mieux nous connaitre. On s’instruit, par ailleurs on impact et on instruit notre communauté.

En parlant de photos, c’est le moment parfait pour se faire des souvenirs et partager sa culture avec les autres. Je ne sais combien de fois on m’a répété que ma Robe Faso Danfani était jolie ou que mon chapeau de Saponé était chouette ! 












 J’ai apprécié partagé avec mes compagnons un petit bout de ma culture et expliquer les atouts de mon pays, par ailleurs un pays qu’ils ne connaissent presque pas. En effet le Burkina Faso, est assez méconnu surtout à cause du manque de représentation qu’il a à travers le monde. C’est pour cela que nous, burkinabé devrions être fier de notre culture et ne devrions pas avoir peur de la partager à travers le monde, parce que notre culture est belle et a de l’impact.

 

 

  Je crois surtout que cette parade à aider à mettre en relief la culture Burkinabé dans un environnement qui comporte plus de 30 nationalités. Je peux ainsi dire, que ce jour-là, la culture burkinabé a fait le tour du monde. Tout ça sans avion, sans passeport et sans visa. C’est ça la culture à UWC, c’est faire le tour du monde à travers les différences et la diversité, s’ouvrir aux autres pour partager le meilleur moment qu’il soit.

 INDEPENDANCE DAY AND DIVERSITY

UWC Costa Rica is a very special UWC school. First of all, it is because in the past, the school was aimed to provide an education for the children of the SOS children villages organization in Costa Rica before becoming UWC. Secondly, it is because, the school has a special relationship with the community of Santa Ana. In fact, UWCCR is very involved in the activities of the community and does not hesitate to involve its students as well.

Each year on 15^th of September, the community of Santa Ana organizes a parade to celebrate the Costa Rican independence day. During this day, UWC students dress in their finest traditional costumes and participate to this important event of the community. The goal is to show the diversity of this beautiful community and show our commitment to its cultural activities. This year I had the chance to participate to this event. What can I say ... What an explosion of colors and diversity !!

It is during this special moment that you can see the diversity of the school. Above all, you will learn about countries and regions that were unknown to you. Especially in Asia, which is composed of a bunch of cultures and differences. I refer to all who think that all Asians are Chinese! Indeed, we start thinking differently about regions. Then stereotypes and biases start fade away and let appear a story that you would never have known, even in a geography or history class. Nepal, Indonesia, Bhutan, Vietnam, China, Japan and more… I cannot name them all! The purpose, is to discover the others, to appreciate their potentialities, create connections and bonds around the world.

Moreover, it is the perfect time for different regions of the world, to be together and show their union. Especially, for the African community that represents just a minority

in UWCCR. North, East and West Africans, we are one and same family at this moment. We can see how close we are and if you look at further you can see the few similarities and values that we share. We do not hesitate sometimes to exchange flags just for fun and for being for a while in the shoes of the other nationality.

 Most importantly, the population of Santa Ana is very warm and pleasant. The residents show their enthusiasm and joy front of all these cultures. They can even often call you for a little picture here and there, but nothing wrong. The community is very curious to see these mixtures of cultures and does not hesitate to ask questions to know us better. We learn but we also impact and educate our community.

  

 By speaking of pictures, it's the perfect time to make memories and share your culture with others. I do not know how many times I was told that my Faso Danfani dress was pretty or that my hat from Saponé was nice! 

 

I enjoyed sharing with my co-year a little bit of my culture, explain the assets of my country and let them know more about where I come from. Burkina Faso, is not that well famous, mainly it is caused by the lack of representation that it has around the world. That is why, Burkina Faso people should be proud of their  culture and should not be afraid to share it around the world, because our culture is beautiful and impact.

 

 I believe that this parade has helped highlighting the culture of Burkina Faso, in an environment that includes more than 30 nationalities. I can say then, that day, the Burkinabe culture went around the world. All of this without an airplane, a passport or even a visa. This is the culture at UWC! It is about going around the world through differences and diversity, opening up to others to share the best moment.
